My letter to Josh Shapiro, Governor of Pennsylvania:
I don’t remember a flag alert for Melissa Hortman nor David Rose, and I can’t find any evidence the flag was ever lowered to honor either of those public servants who were the victims of confirmed politically motivated violence.

I’m really dismayed that he lowered the flag for a right-wing partisan hack. You don’t have to valorize and venerate a jackaloon like that just to say murder is wrong. Most people the world over and through much of recorded history have believed and confirmed in writing within penal code that murder is wrong. This isn’t in question, or shouldn’t be, every time a horrific violent crime takes place. And most people on “the left” sure aren’t interested in someone lighting the match for the right-wing to use as an excuse for state violence and militia garbage. Because of course there are so many people in the corporate media and social media claiming without evidence who they think is to blame. All the wrong conversations taking place on this topic. A fabulously wealthy right-wing celebrity’s family will be taken care of, I’m sure. But what about all those witnesses to that very public violent trauma for example? Where are the politicians pledging to reach out to those people, mostly young people, to promise them solace and aid? And where are the politicians promising to assist and look after those who are being threatened in the aftermath, like the HBCUs, because of being wrongly maligned as responsible for some murderer’s crime they had nothing to do with?
