Of course this is because of anti-vax cultism promoted by influential people and paid influencers. He likely believed all sorts of things based on misinformation that circulates in online spaces. It’s very tragic, but disinformation purveyors often target people with difficult to treat health problems, with quack cures, and bogus explanations, and people in that situation are targeted by anti-vax disinformation campaigns. People mistrust vaccines because of all the well-funded disinformation campaigns, including with influencers who scare people with violent rhetoric conspiracy fictions. People have been tricked. It really is as simple as that. And now some of those people are a grave danger to others.
