This is not shocking to me because I was told essentially this same thing about the disabled by a senior staffer of Pennsylvania’s Democratic Party US Senator Bob Casey in 2021.
This disability and age discrimination orientation is a mainstream viewpoint nowadays from right to left in many countries. And it is wrong.
The CDC HICPAC committee plans to meet this week to weaken infection control in healthcare settings, and make it so that hospitals can bar nurses from using effective PPE in covid wards, In 2020 it was a scandal when a hospital in Scranton was risking spreading the virus via nurses from the covid ward to the NICU. Now, they want to make that practice standard in hospitals, because the CDC HICPAC committee is completely staffed with corporate healthcare industry connected executives grasping at straws to pretend infection control isn’t worth bothering about (read: spending money on protecting patients that could be going to hospital executives). There’s also a public comment period for HHS 504 on accessible healthcare, and they don’t even mention the issue of infection control for the high risk and immunocompromised disabled.
It’s also no picnic for “young healthy” people to be repeatedly sick, and not really have enough, if any, paid sick leave. All these workplaces are chronically understaffed, with so many people out sick and off on leave at any given time.
Including the place I was told to just quit if I didn’t want to risk it, so I was forced into retirement and there has since been reports that they are understaffed and that being exacerbated by so many experienced staff retiring in the pandemic. You don’t say.
The message to everyone everywhere is “Accept your fate and catch covid and to hell with the consequences to anyone and everyone.“
