Pennsylvania has DLCs not DMVs, don’t believe DMV scammers.

I regularly get scam texts telling me I’m in trouble with the Pennsylvania Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and this is the final notice, etc etc. But here’s a tip off right off that it’s a scam. Pennsylvania privatized a lot of vehicle registration stuff so there are authorized outlets like car dealerships and title and tag stores, and you can do stuff online or through the mail directly with the government, but there are no DMV offices. There are Drivers License Centers where people go for drivers licenses and CDLs, but they don’t do anything with vehicle regulation.

That means that any DMV websites for Pennsylvania are also bogus, almost never have correct information, and only exist to drive traffic from searches to their websites. Unfortunately a lot of people are misled by this as well.

But one quick inoculation is for us all in Pennsylvania against falling for misinformation and scams is for us all to remind each other that vehicle services were privatized in Pennsylvania and we have DLCs not DMVs.
